More Items of Interest about Mary Jean Alig

Mary Jean enjoys learning different techniques of painting.  In a summer course taught by Maxine Masterfield she learned to do "sand painting," in which sand, water and sprayed ink achieve images that are intriguing in their abstract nature and therefore interesting to interpret using pastels and colored pencils.

While in Harbor Springs, Mary Jean likes to paint, using not only canvas, but plywood boards and unusual rocks found while walking on the beach.  Almost everyone in the family enjoys painting rocks.   Her grandchildren have created all sorts of rock groups, including cookies, pie slices and hamburgers to name a few.
