Items of Interest about Peggy Brown

Peggy was featured in an article on the Summer 2004 issue of American Artist Magazine.  The article explains Peggy's technique of layering color and allowing the surface and color to dictate the final creation.  Peggy's willingness to experiment with non-traditional papers and pigment types keeps her art fresh.  She often uses geometric forms, reminiscent of her earlier drawings of Victorian houses.  To these she adds organic lines inspired by rocks, trees and water.  Her goal is to allow the art to happen, rather than force a picture to satisfy some preconceived plan.  Peggy says, "All of my paintings are a collaboration between the medium, the viewer, and me.

Peggy's art quilts are done in a similar manner to her paintings.  She hand paints or computer prints designs on silk.  She then layers these with other fabrics until she has an appealing composition.  The stitching and quilting add yet another texture and design element to the piece.

Peggy's countertops are as artistic as everything else she does.  She gathered odd lots of discontinued and mismatched tiles.  She then arranged these into pleasing patterns to create this unique surface.  As with her painting and quilt making,  Peggy lets the tiles dictate their positions.
