C. R. welcomes visitors as long as
they have an appointment. He is happy
to take guests on a guided tour of his "sculpture garden" but be
prepared. C. R. has more energy and stamina than most people
half his age. His property is home
to over 200 of his sculptures, two of his sons and his watch dog.
As C. R. may be working in his studio and lose track of time, a
conventional door bell was out of the question. He solved the
problem with a doorbell that is uniquely his own. The large school
bell can be heard at some distance.

| C. R. favors clean, rounded lines in
nearly all of his creations but he has no set style. Whenever he
gets a new idea he will stop what he is doing to pursue it. He is
very knowledgeable about the color and density of various stones.
Indiana limestone is buff, but Kansas limestone is golden yellow.
Georgia Etowah marble has shades of pink, North Carolina marble is
black, and some areas of Maryland have marble streaked with purple.
Even with this knowledge, C. R. won't know what his finished creation
will look like until it has been polished and all of the personality of
the piece is revealed.

C. R. has an interest in other
cultures and has an eclectic collection of Arkansas pots, Native
American art and tools, African carvings, and South and Central American
art. He started out collecting arrowheads unearthed while farming
in his boyhood home of York County, Pennsylvania. Other pieces
were acquired during visits to other countries and at art fairs.
His fascination with multicultural art led him to create a series of
sculptures based on the dimensions of a Native American axe blade.
He has also created a totem titled P.R.I.D.E.- People Respecting
Individuality and Diversity in Everyone. A sampling of C. R. Schiefer's diverse collection |
