Items of Interest about Terri Schultz

Terri and her husband, Jim have three children and three grandchildren.  When designing their home, outside of Nashville, Indiana, they planned an area just for children.  The space is child-sized; a tall adult will have to duck to get in.  It is light and airy with whimsical lighting that Terri has designed.  The main level is furnished with scaled furniture for reading, playing or having a tea party with the dolls, bears and other stuffed inhabitants.  The upper level is the bedroom with a closet full of dress up clothes.  Windows and a door separate the small living space from the main house for privacy while still being able to keep an eye on the children.

Terri's primary subjects are people, especially children.  Terri has taken many photographs of her children, their friends and her grandchildren to use as inspiration for paintings.  She creates art that is moving and meaningful to her, in hopes that it will also touch others.   Watching two of her grandchildren two days a week gives Terri the opportunity to capture moments that she would like to paint.

Terri's granddaughter Madeline

Nearly 15 years ago, after seeing her entry in the Indiana Heritage Arts exhibit, Fred Rigley invited Terri to see his studio.  Terri's good friend, Patty Bartels joined her. Patty was looking for a painting partner and Fred had just lost his wonderful wife.  That was the beginning of a great friendship and Patty became like an adopted daughter to Fred.  Patti and Fred still paint together and she and Terri occasionally meet to paint as well.  Terri has a painting of a vase of flowers hanging in her home.  It is a painting that she did in Patty's studio.  They painted the same subject, but each in her own style.
